MDG FCT ABUJA ACHIEVEMENTS
Goal 1: Eradicate Extreme Poverty and Hunger
Baseline: 75% world’s poorest people (1.05billion women, children and men) live in rural areas and depend on agriculture and related activities for their livelihoods. 87% of Population live on less than $2 USD/Day
Our Strategies:
• 60 farms of about 600 hectares were opened in 60 communities of the 6 Area Councils
• Over 700 Women and Youth were trained in different vocational skills. Similarly, more than 300 Women and Youth were trained in entrepreneurship development.
Goal 2: Achieve Universal Primary Education
Baseline: Literacy rate differs from one Area Council to another. In AMAC the rate is about 67% while in Abaji it is as low as 37%
Our Strategies:
• 585 Classrooms have been constructed for both Primary/JSS to accommodate 23,400 pupils in 2007 - 2009
• 21 Classrooms were rehabilitated
• 598 sets of classroom furniture were provided to both Primary and Junior Secondary Schools
• 1,680 classmate personal computers called classmate PCs were supplied to 14 Junior Secondary Schools
Goal 3: Promote Gender Equality and Empower Women
Baseline: Gender inequalities exist in employment, where the average share of employed women does not exceed 10% in most cases.
Our Strategies:
• We trained women in different skills
• MDGs in collaboration with 4 Micro-Finance Banks have being providing loans to the youth & women.
Goal 4: Reduce Child Mortality
Baseline: Out break of Cholera and Malarial has caused death of Under five children across the country.
Our Strategies:
• 350,000 Long Lasting Insecticide Treated Nets (LLITNs) has been distributed to household across the six Area Councils
Goal 5: Improve Maternal Health
Baseline: 74% of the communities in the Federal Capital Territory are without primary health care while only 26% have primary health care.
Our Strategies:
• 30 Primary Healthcare Clinics (PHC) are being constructed across the six Area Councils and will be fully equipped.
Goal 6: Combat HIV/AIDS, Malaria and other diseases
Baseline: 58% of the 858 communities claim they use protection against 42% that do not.
Our Strategies:
• Sensitization of rural communities through mailafiya Mobile Health Delivery programme.
• Purchase and distribution of 150 doses of Anti-malarial drugs
Goal 7: Ensure Environmental Sustainability
Baseline: The rate of deforestation shows signs of decreasing, but is still alarmingly high A decisive response to climate change is urgently needed
Our Strategies:
• Development of Standard Environmental Code for Managing Environment
Goal 8: Develop a Global Partnership for Development

Our Strategies:
•FCT-MDGs is partnering with Intel Corporation (micro chip leaders) and recently, Microsoft Corporation joined to support the FCT
• FCT-MDGs has entered into a tripartite arrangement with CGS, FCT and Abaji Area Council to provide a Comprehensive Mini Water Supply Scheme for Abaji and its environment.
